TL;DR — 30 SECOND ANSWER
Wild shinies appear at 1/4096 (wild). Gacha pulls come out shiny at 1/100 — about 41× more generous — and the gacha never wastes a shiny you already own.
What are shinies?
Shinies are rare alternate-color variants of a Pokémon. In PokéSurvivor they are purely visual — the stats, moves and tier of a shiny are identical to the normal version. Every one of the 966 playable Pokémon has its own shiny form, so a complete shiny collection means 966 separate catches.
Shiny odds
| Source | Shiny rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wild encounters | 1/4096 | Per wild Pokémon encountered during a run |
| Gacha pull | 1/100 | Per pull, in every rarity pool — roughly 41× the wild rate |
Both numbers come from the game's published source code, so they are exact odds rather than community estimates.
Gacha shiny duplicate protection
The gacha never wastes a shiny on a duplicate: if a pull rolls shiny for a Pokémon whose shiny you already own, the game re-picks a Pokémon of the same rarity whose shiny you are still missing. Only when you own every shiny in that entire rarity pool does it fall back to a normal version. Completionists can therefore keep pulling without fear of "dead" shinies.
Where to hunt shinies
- During runs (wild): every wild Pokémon you defeat-and-encounter rolls the 1/4096 check. Longer runs and denser waves mean more shiny chances — survival time is the shiny hunter's real currency. See Tips & tricks for surviving into late waves.
- Gacha: at 1/100 per pull plus duplicate protection, tickets are the efficient route. The gacha calculator shows exactly how many pulls your ticket budget needs for a given shiny chance.
FAQ
Do shinies have better stats?
No. Shinies are a visual variant only — stats, moves and tier placement are identical.
Can rift legendaries be shiny?
Yes — every species in the game has a shiny form, including the 87 rift legendaries. Browse them in the legendary filter of the Pokédex.
Which method is faster?
Per encounter the gacha is about 41× more likely to produce a shiny, but runs give you far more encounters than you get pulls. Heavy run time favors wild hunting; accumulated tickets favor the gacha — with duplicate protection, both eventually converge on a full collection.
