Enemies, Bosses & Behaviors

How wild Pokémon spawn, when bosses appear, and what each behavior does — straight from the source code.

Last updated: 2026-10-13

TL;DR — 30 SECOND ANSWER

Enemies spawn in 6 power tiers keyed to BST, with a fresh random cast each run. Bosses (strong non-legendaries) appear at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, 12:00 and 15:00. 13 behaviors define how enemies fight — healers and summoners are the ones to kill first. Legendaries never spawn in the field; they live in rifts.

How spawning works

There are no fixed spawn lists. Every wild Pokémon is assigned to one of 6 power tiers by its base stat total (BST), and when a run starts the game picks a random cast from each tier — so every run brings different faces. Combat stats come from the tier template, adjusted by each Pokémon's own HP and speed.

Bosses

Bosses are strong non-legendary Pokémon (pseudo-legendaries, Slaking and friends) drawn from fixed power bands. Five boss slots per run:

Legendaries never appear as field enemies or bosses — they only live in rifts, and beating them there feeds the 87 legendary achievements.

The 13 behaviors

Every enemy fights by one of 13 behavior patterns. Some are fixed per species (below), others are assigned from the Pokémon's type with a per-species dice roll:

Chase

Comes straight at you. The default horde behavior.

Charger

Stops, aims, then lunges in a straight line.

Ranged

Keeps its distance and fires projectiles at you.

Tank

Slow with a huge HP pool — soaks damage while others swarm.

Healer

Heals enemies around it. Kill these first.

Shielder

Puts shields on its allies.

Summoner

Calls its pack into the fight — each species summons a specific minion.

Bomber

Closes in and explodes. Faster but frailer than its tier suggests.

Beamer

Fires a beam that telegraphs on the ground before it shoots.

Zoner

Drops damage zones under your feet that burst shortly after.

Fan

Fires projectiles in a fan spread — wider in later tiers.

Jumper

Leaps and crashes down on you; the landing spot shows on the ground first.

Runner

Very fast and fragile; runs to where you are heading, cutting off players who only flee. One per tier — the fastest of the cast.

Fixed personalities

These species always have the same behavior, regardless of tier or run. Summoners each call a specific minion species:
